Interior Design
Interior designers conceptualize and produce aesthetic, functional, and safe designs for interior spaces in residential, commercial, cultural, institutional, and industrial buildings. Professional interior designers make an average somewhere in the range of $40,000 to $55,000 a year. New designers make around $25,000 to $35,000 a year. Those who have a good reputation are able to make much more. Some very successful designers make up to $80,000 a year or sometimes even more. Most interior designers work between 7-10 hours a day. They sometimes change their workday so it is more suitable for their clients’ schedules. Working on weekends and/or evenings is usually needed to meet up with clients or get projects done on time. Interior designers often work in offices or design studios. You need at least a high school diploma (and in most provinces, they need to be certified by the provincial interior designers' association. You will also need to complete an interior design program in college or university (a 2-3 year diploma or a 4 year bachelor's degree). Job opportunities will come mostly from the required replacements of interior designers who will be retiring or leaving the job. You can find work in interior design offices and studios, and there is no job security. The number of interior designers has stayed moderate over the years, but the demand has gotten higher. As there is no indication that the percentage will get higher it seems that the amount of designers will stay the same in the future.
I am interested in interior designing as I personally find it really fun, you get to put your own creativity and imagination into it which I really like. You get to pick the different aspects of the room/area and choose the furniture, decorations, and colour schemes. If you really like decorating and designing, like I do it would defininetly be enjoyable and fun to do. I think that I am suitable for this career because I am creative and imaginative especially when it comes to the different aspects of rooms and decorating and making them look unique and polished. I think that I am a hardworker and also have a good attitutide and those both contribute to being an interior designer.
I still am not sure if i 100% want to be an interior designer but it defininetly is an option and something that I will consider. Some concerns that I have include the fact that it can be very overwhelming and tiring after a while. There are many skills needed that I may not have and it seems pretty hard to try and get enough clients especially in the beginning of the entire process. Over all interior designing seems like a very fun career but it also seems like it will have a lot of rough patches and difficulties through out the journey of becoming one.
